{"id":129,"date":"2019-12-15T18:55:04","date_gmt":"2019-12-15T18:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ehssportshalloffame.com\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2021-03-22T00:26:12","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T00:26:12","slug":"john-burson","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/ehssportshalloffame.com\/?page_id=129","title":{"rendered":"John Burson"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A valuable and beloved member of the Bobcat family, John Burson spent 41 years teaching and coaching at Eunice High School.&nbsp; A 1967 graduate of St. Edmund, Burson earned his teaching degree at the University of Southwestern University and began his career at Eunice High School in 1971.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Burson was involved in Lady Cats basketball from 1973\nthrough 1975.&nbsp; Burson also joined the\nfootball coaching staff under head coach Lee Roy Taylor before given the job of\nstarting the Lady Bobcats\u2019 softball team in 1975. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the spring of 1973, John Burson and Clarence Merricks\nbuilt a new Bobcat baseball program. Success came quick!&nbsp; Under the direction of both Burson and\nMerricks, the Cats advanced to the state semi-finals by defeating the defending\nstate champions in Minden, 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Burson and Clarence Merricks later directed the Bobcats\nto the 1979 state championship.&nbsp; After\nwinning three straight district titles, Eunice began its state championship run\nwith wins over Jonesboro Hodge, Menard, Springhill, and Denham Springs only to\nface Pineville in the final game.&nbsp; A\nthrilling 4-3 victory earned the Eunice High School Bobcats the title of State\nChampions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Burson continued with the Bobcat baseball team for the\nnext 25 seasons as an assistant coach and head statistician.&nbsp; He also served as a head coach of the Eunice\nAmerican Legion <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team and was the statistician for the Eunice High School football\nteam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retiring from Eunice High School in 2012 as the head of the\nEHS Social Studies Department, John Burson\u2019s legacy as a great mentor, friend,\nhusband, father, grandfather, coach, and educator will forever be felt at EHS. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A valuable and beloved member of the Bobcat family, John Burson spent 41 years teaching and coaching at Eunice High School.&nbsp; A 1967 graduate of St. Edmund, Burson earned his teaching degree at the University of Southwestern University and began his career at Eunice High School in 1971.
