{"id":162,"date":"2022-08-23T15:31:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T15:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ehssportshalloffame.com\/?page_id=162"},"modified":"2022-08-23T15:31:37","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T15:31:37","slug":"john-lauris-lawman-lafleur","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/ehssportshalloffame.com\/?page_id=162","title":{"rendered":"John Lauris \u201cLawman\u201d Lafleur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Lauris \u201cLawman\u201d Lafleur was a legendary Bobcat basketball player and a 1972 EHS graduate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lafleur set the school record in 1972 when he scored 59 points against Washington High of Lake Charles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He scored 783 points in 32 games for a 24.4 scoring average his senior season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also averaged 11.8 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His junior season, Lafleur scored 42 points in 28 games for a 15-point average and was also the team\u2019s best rebounder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aurdie Bellard, Lawman\u2019s cousin, has fond memories of watching Lafleur display his skills on the basketball court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bellard recounted a game they all attended when EHS faced Deridder. In that game, Lafleur scored 42 points and Eunice High was crowned district champs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lafleur grabbed the interest of several college teams, including LSU, Stanford, North Carolina, and Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAccording to my uncle Frankie\u2019s story, the LSU coaches met with them twice and talked about him being the next Pistol Pete Maravich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After attending LSUA for a year LSU wanted him to join them that August, but Lawman returned to Eunice and never played college basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat could have been, we will never know, but I do know he could have been as good or better than any player to play basketball at LSU.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After high school, Lafleur worked in the oil field and then became a carpenter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was very humble,\u201d Bellard said of Lafleur. \u201cHe never bragged about himself \u2013 he wasn\u2019t a showboat guy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn the basketball court he would pass the ballot his teammates because he wanted them to score too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawman passed away on April 25, 2006.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Lauris \u201cLawman\u201d Lafleur was a legendary Bobcat basketball player and a 1972 EHS graduate.
