<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pitre graduated from Eunice High in 1967 and was a three-year letterman for the Bobcats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He briefly played football for the Bobcats, but the basketball court is where Pitre was able to show off his talents as a three-year letterman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the son of Gorine and Frank Pitre, the owners of the Pitre\u2019s Stop and Shop for many years in Eunice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earning all-state honors, Pitre said was the highlight of his high school days \u2013 a recognition to his scoring ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pitre was hurt playing football as a freshman and then re-injured that knee playing basketball at McNeese which ended his athletic career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After graduating college in 1973, Pitre coached basketball and tennis at St. Edmund and then Eunice High (freshmen football and basketball) before returning to Lake Charles in 1980 to become the director of college intramurals where he stayed for 30 years before retiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He served two terms on the Calcasieu Parish School Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wanted to make a difference for the kids as an educator on the school board,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pitre and his wife Jean met while in college and have been married 43 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They have three sons: Billy, Steven and John along with four grandchildren \u2013 Calie, Myles, Mason, and James.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was able to coach my boys which was special,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I coached some great athletes in high school like Joe Turk and Chris Carrier.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
