The son of Russel and Betty Quebedeaux, Rusty is a 1984 EHS graduate who played football and baseball for the Bobcats. He was named a 1982 1st<\/sup> team All District Defensive Lineman and was selected to the 1983 Preseason All Louisiana football team.
He was a junior defensive tackle on the 1982 state championship team and his teammates called him \u201cthe animal.\u201d
\u201cThe championship season was one to remember because of the guys I played with,\u201d he said. \u201cIt didn\u2019t really hit that we were state champions until a few months later.\u201d
He suffered a knee injury on the fourth game of his senior season against Notre Dame and couldn\u2019t finish the year.
\u201cI wanted to be out there with my teammates and I couldn\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cBut the challenges we face in life make us who we are.\u201d
Baseball was a good sport for him as he was named to the All-State Honorable Mention list in 1983 and 1st<\/sup> team All District 1st<\/sup> baseman. In 1984 he was named as 1st<\/sup> team All Dsitrict 1st<\/sup> baseman and team offensive MVP.\u00a0 He was also selected to participate in the LHSAA All Star game in 1984.
\u201cI had good people around me,\u201d Quebedeaux said of his high school career. \u201cThe teachers were very supportive and we had a happy family atmosphere.
\u201cI am proud of what I accomplished at both OHS and Eunice High,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it was all possible with the help of all the people who walked through my life.\u201d
Quebedeaux signed to play football at McNeese but after an impressive American Legion baseball season, the first baseman wanted to follow Stanley Loewer (from St. Edmund) and Barry Manuel (from Mamou) to LSU.
\u201cI wanted to play for LSU since I was a little kid,\u201d he said. \u201cBut McNeese refused to let me out of the scholarship so I was forced to sit out a year of baseball at LSU.
\u201cI went to Western Oklahoma State and did pretty well for a couple of seasons before my mother became ill with breast cancer.\u201d
Quebedeaux then transferred to USL in Lafayette to be closer to home and then stopped playing baseball.
His mother passed away in December of 1993.
He presently lives in Humble, Texas with his wife Desha and he has two step sons Caleb and Marshall Hardin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
