Four sport star Arthur Richey a member of the Eunice High Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
Richey is a 1983 Eunice High graduate and played football, basketball, baseball and ran track for the Bobcats.
Richey was a three-year letterman in football, earning all district and all-parish honors.
He tied Harry Price for the single season reception record with 31 catches,
In his career, Richey had 55 receptions for 886 yards.
He was a member of the 1982 state championship team beating Jennings 16-13 in the title game. He was named to the 1981 and 1982 1st team all district wide receiver.
In basketball, Richey was a two-year letterman and was part of a district championship team.
In baseball, Richey was a three-year letterman and earned 1st team all district out field in 1982 and1983. He was also named to the 3A All state 1st team for outfield in 1982 and in 1983 was awarded all state honorable mention outfield. “Coach Merricks was one the best coaches I ever had,” Richey said. “He was a very fair man. He taught us more than just baseball – we learned life lessons.”
In track, Richey was a three-year letterman and was district runner-up in the high jump and the relays.
He was the parish high jump champion at 6-5 – a school record tied with Kevin Carrier. In 1983, Richey was named as EHS Outstanding Field-man.
Richey shared both the EHS underclassman and senior athlete award with Chris Carrier.
He was also a member of the EHS Senior Hall of Fame.
Richey played baseball one year at McNeese before a career-ending injury.
His parents are Joe Richey and the late Florence Richey.
Arthur has been married for almost 31 years to his wife Penny and they have two sons: Jonathan and Brandon.
Their three grandchildren are Bentley, Willow and Noelle.
The family lives in Sour Lake, Texas, a community near Beaumont.
Richey said he was involved with their local PONY league for over 30 years.
He has also been a umpire and referee in both youth and high school baseball and football.
