Our next inductee into the Eunice High School Sports Hall of Fame is Coach Scott Deshotel, affectionately known to so many as Coach Des.
Coach is a graduate of St. Edmund High School and holds a Bachelors of Health and Physical Education from McNeese State University. Coach Deshotel and his wife Lisa are the proud parents of daughters, Emily and Katherine and the even prouder grandparents of Korbin and Kane.
Coach Deshotel began his coaching and teaching career in Eunice, LA back in 1988 and he is still working at Eunice Junior High School at this time. He has taught at St. Edmund, Highland Elementary, Eunice High School and Eunice Junior High School. If you are trying to do the math in your head- that’s a total of 35 years in education.
Coach Deshotel is being honored tonight for his 19 years as the Eunice High School head softball coach. His coaching career began in 1990-1994, again in
1997-2003, and once again in 2005-2011. During his tenure Coach and his teams stacked up a total of 6 District Championships, 8 St. Landry Parish Tournament Champ titles, made the state playoffs 18 of his 19 years, 4 state tournament appearances and over 300 total wins.
Don’t’ think we are going to gloss over those State Tournament visits, Coach.
- In 1992 EHS, under Coach Deshotel, made it to the State Tournament for the 1st time in school history.
- In 1997, the team made it to the semifinals for the 1st time in school history.
- In 2000 and 2005, Coach Des lead his Lady Cats to the Quarterfinals.
He has had a total of 15 All State players. He was also the 1st EHS softball coach to win a playoff game, advance to the state tournament, win a St Landry Parish tournament, LSCA Vice President, LSCA All Star selection game committee member, and the West coordinator of the All-Star game for 2 years.
And let’s not forget he has also been a basketball, track and football coach during his years at Eunice Junior High School.
